We found out from another gas supplier that the contract we signed with Universal is illegal in the state of Michigan. We elected to cancel this contract with Universal.in doing so we received a letter from a collection company attempting to collect $250 for early termination. We were never contacted by Universal to have a chance to pay this or to discuss the matter.
We have never been given the opportunity to reduce our rate even though gas rates have dropped since signing the contract three years ago. From our understanding if we do agree to a lower rate with Universal we would be starting a new 5 year contract with them.
