Beware of Protection One's questionable business practices. I canceled my services with them in good standing, sold my home, and moved away in 2004. Now in 2010 (that's almost 6 years later!!!), I start getting collection account notices that I owe them $460. After calling them and the credit agency, neither can produce any statements that actually show I owe money and each keeps telling me to call the other. Yet they are more than willing to destroy my credit with a nasty collection account.
It looks like they pulled the trick where they just keep renewing the contract and "billing" you, even if you've canceled and do not use the service. Then, when you don't pay (you know, you've moved away or died or something) they will just let the charges add up until it is worth it to send you to a collection agency. They are worse than a health club! As far as their security service goes, I never had a problem it. But you have to keep in mind that someday you will want to cancel your service. When that day comes, Protection One will do whatever they can to make sure you remain a "paying customer for life."
