I rented a car through Expedia.com. When I arrived at Thrifty, The person at the counter asked me about a Loss Damage Waiver ($22.99 a day). I explained to him that I did not need the LDW because my insurance company would cover any damage to the car. He printed out the receipt and asked me to intial by the LDW saying that I was declining it. AFTER I initialed the form I handed it back to him and without my knowledge, he circled accept on the charge and I didn't realize it until I had left and got to my hotel room. When I returned the car, I was told that I had to call the company and file a complaint, which I did. I have a case #1345169. I have tried to call them multiple times for a resolution to this problem and was transfered from person to person and then told to call back in 3 weeks. They have made NO effort to resolve this.
I feel that I was ripped off $160.93 plus tax and that Thrifty intenionally set out to rip me off. I still have the receipt and it took 3 of us to figure out that I had been charged because the receipt is so hard to understand. The LDW is on one side of the receipt with absolutely no total on it anywhere and the rest of the charges are on the other side and the total charge includes the LDW but is not itemized on that side of the receipt.
This is a very slimy way to do business and I want my money back. I believe the person at the counter purposely tried to scam me. Maybe they get a commision for every LDW the sell, I don't know. But what I do know is that this was no mistake. It was intentional!!!
