Paid Don Voigt to do my roof, wrap my trip and replace rusty chimney cap. Hired all illegal workers and did not do any work himself. Was supposed to remove the rotten wood prior to wrapping with aluminum, which we later discovered he did not do. He had his guys just wrap over the rotten trim. The day his guys did my roof, he called me and informed me they had mis-measured by 100 sq feet and I would have to pay them to get more materials even though we had already signed a contract. They had already ripped off the old materials and had me in a bind. I was at work so I told him to go ahead and purchase more materials. He said his way of apologizing was to not charge me the extra labor. I had called the roof supply store where I had purchased all my other roofing materials and found out I had originally purchased enough materials to cover my roof. The next day, while they were finishing the wrap he called and informed me I owed him $400 dollars more than originally agreed upon in the contract and insisted I pay $1300 in cash when I only owed him $900. He also was good enough to let me know that I needed to go to the bank and get the cash before it closed early that Saturday. I told him I dont carry that much cash around and he would have to accept a check and cash it himself to pay his workes. He kept insisting and badgering myself and my wife that he needed cash to pay his workers... indicating to me they were illegals and he was working under the table and not claiming on his taxes. I come from a long line of contractors and know the games he was playing. At one time I had to leave the house and when I got back he was in a heavy argument with my wife about the $400 extra we supposedly owed him. We went over the contract and I pointed out what we agreed on. He said his guy only had a 12 foot tape and could not measure properly and almost fell off my roof. I told him I could use a dollar bill which is six inches long and figure out the square footage. Furthermore if his guys could not do simple measurements and math and could not balance on a roof then maybe he was in the wrong business. I further explained as the "contractor" he should have ensured the measurements prior to signing the contract. I again pointed out what we agreed on the signed contract and he said he knew what the contract said because he had written it up that he woud write up another contract and we would sign it again after all the work was complete. I told him I would not be signing another contract and he would have to take the pay out of his subcontractors pay. He became very beligerant and was screaming and cursing. I told him to quiet his voice, and quit cursing as there were kids all around outside. He then grabbed my arm and I told him I just got back from Iraq after 9 months and was very jumpy and to remove his hand. He started hollering that he didnt give a crap about my service to the country and I was ripping him off. I later found out he had grabbed my wifes arm in the same manner. The whole time at my house he was loud, obnoxious, sexist and racist. He als decided to get my almost 80 year old widowed neighbor that he befriended as a witness. He orignally was supposed to fix an outlet in her kitchen and in the last year has painted almost the whole inside of her house, replaced all her landscaping timbers with expensive brick, painted all her outside shutters, which did not need to be done, and is constantly convincing her that things need to be done around her house. He insists on doing all her yardwork when she used to do it for exercise. All of us neighbors have adopted her as our mother/grandmothers and always did things around her house for free after her husband died. Now she does not ask for us to do the simplest things and instead calls him to come over. He is taking major advantage of her and not sure if there is anything we can do about it. I really feel sorry for her and not quite sure how to help her from constantly getting ripped off by this con man. If your a verteran he obviously does not care about the danger you put yourself in so if your active duty, a veteran of foreign war or retired military, let everyone know what a piece of work this guy is. He should NOT be working in the State of Virginia.
