I was robbed in plain view two days before Christmas in this Best Western's lobby restaurant while having my complimentary breakfast by a professional pair of thieves. There was no hotel manager on duty and the overwhelmed staff handled the situation poorly, repeatedly denying that they have thefts at the hotel. I was asked, for example, if I left my carry on bag in the room, etc., etc. Security cameras later revealed that one of the thieves was just ahead of me while I was running to the lobby screaming "Theft! Block the doors!" If there had been a security officer at the door, he would have been caught. Curiously, this footage and also footage of the thieves on restaurant cameras was destroyed before the Newark police could come to retrieve both. None of my follow up calls have been returned by management. There have been other strange handlings. But most seriously the hotel's denial that theft is not a problem at the hotel turned out to be a patent lie. Police records show two reported thefts just the month before, also a holiday weekend. One staff told me off the record of another. There were no notices posted anywhere alerted patrons to be especially vigilant nor were there any security guards on duty. Clearly, this hotel does not care about the safety of their patrons' personal property, probably taking advantage of the fact that their customer base is travelers. Stay at this hotel at your own risk!
