Chase Home Finance Deceptive Dealings - Loan Modification

Dear Bill:

I wonder if anyone else has contacted you about the deceptive dealings of Chase Home Finance.in December my wife lost her job, so I immediately contacted Chase Home Finance to see what could possibly be done about refinancing our home, so we would not default on our mortgage. They had me speak with a representative from the Early Intervention Dept. And file a request for assistance. After several months, we received a voice mail from a person named Donna Cunningham, and she said she was assigned to our modification request. I attempted to reach her but she never called us back. Then on April with my wife still being unemployed, and us having to put our mortgage payment on credit cards, I contacted Chase again for assistance. They instructed me to go on line to their website and follow the instructions to file for a request for the government assisted loan modification program. I followed their instruction and on 4/21/09, I faxed them the necessary paperwork and all the required documents.

I had not heard anything from them, so I attempted to call them and they said there was nothing they could do about the time delay. I asked them please to give me any information, and I was given Donna Cunningham's name again as my "Head Analyst." I left another voice mail for her but I still have never heard back from her. I received a call today from a person in the Loan Modification Dept, and she advised that she had a list of required documents that I would have to resubmit. The list was all the same documents I had sent her two months ago. She stated that they had all expired already since it has taken so long for them to get back to us. I asked her how that could possibly be our fault, and I asked her what is to prevent us from resending updated documents, just to have them expire again. She stated they very well could expire again and she would have to call me again, just to take up more time. I told her I have been trying to get some assistance since Dec. She said the only thing she can tell me is that I need to resend the documents as she has instructed. Then she said that we should have sent in our "signed" 2007 tax return. I guess I had sent her the "taxpayer copy" from our files, and it was unsigned. I stated that if that was all that they needed, why did they not just call us to have us sign a copy of the return and refax it to them?

I asked her how long it would be after this and her comment was that this is not a Chase program, this is a government program, and they have over 350,000 requests and 300 Loan Analysts, and the government keeps changing the requirements on them. I said then this could all be a waste of time resending these documents and we could just end up right back here in a few months, and she said yes.

I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the Florida Attorney General's office but is there any other advice or help anyone can give to us to help us navigate through this insane situation?

Sincerely,

Michael Shafer,
