Magic Jack
Surprisingly Awesome

I was a little hesitant to purchase the magicjack because of all the negative reviews I read. So I went to my local BestBuy and purchased one. Even the guy at the register was kind of poking fun at the idea of a magicjack. Went home and installed it in my laptop (Sony Vaio 1.6Ghz, 1GB RAM, USB 2.0, wireless internet via high speed DSL) and it worked flawlessly. Made a couple of calls and to my surprise, call quality was great! So then I went ahead and installed it in an old PC (maybe 10 yrs old, 500Mhz processor, 128 MB RAM, USB 1.0, LAN connected to high speed DSL). I didn't think it would work as well because it was a very old pc, but to my surprise once again, it worked flawlessly. I made calls to Puerto Rico (talked about 1/2 hour with not a single interruption in call) and it worked better than with my cell phone. Called different cell phones and landlines and not one single complaint from anyone. I highly recommend at least trying it. You can grab it at your local BestBuy, Walmart, CVS, etc. And if it doesn't work for you, just take it back to your local store and you don't have to deal with MagicJack customer service, which I've heard is pretty pathetic.

The reasons it worked for me are:
- I always have a computer on anyways, so adding the magicjack was a no brainer.
- I currently don't have a land line, so this will serve as my land line.
- Having a land line will help me reduce my cell phone minutes.
- Not much to loose if everything goes bad ($40), and I can always return it for a full refund.

Some cons:
- Selection of area codes and phone numbers is still fairly limited, but this is a new service so it'll take some time.
- You can't transfer your phone number to a magicjack number.
- Software is not horrible, but they still have a lot to improve on. More flexibility and options for the end user would really be helpful.

As a previous reviewer said, I think other phone companies have to be paying people to write bad reviews. Hope this review helps out those who are trying to figure out whether to buy it or not.
