I purchased a frig on 01.12.2009. The freezer gasket does not work. Everytime the refrigerator door is closed, the freezer door pops open. Additionally, there is a strange smell that emits from the refrig when it goes through cycles.

I contacted Lowes who referred me to Frigidaire and they (Frigidaire) referred to three authorized dealers in my area. One dealer didn't cover warranties and the other dealer didn't work in my area. The last authorized repair dealer wouldn't return phone calls, etc. When I was finally able to make an appointment with the service (they wouldn't return several phone calls), they didn't bother to contact me until 6:30 at night, after I waited all day for them to show up.

We agreed he would come out on June 12. He didn't smell any smell and finally agreed that the freezer door was messed up. (This was after my mother-in-law showed him the gasket was not sealed.) He stated he would order a new gasket. I waited until June 26 and contacted him. He hadn't ordered the part. After several more attempts to contact the repair service, he showed up at my house on July 10, attempted to put the new seal in, and it didn't work. He stated the freezer door wasn't working properly and he would order a new gasket and new freezer door. He stated it should be in by Tuesday, as in two days ago. I still haven't heard from the service.

On July 15, I emailed frigidaire to file a complaint. They didn't email me back. On July 16, I contacted Frigidaire via telephone at 800.724.7519 (I think the customer service center is in India or somewhere as the lady had a very heavy accent) to see if I could just get a new refrigerator. She stated they couldn't and she gave me several more service techs I could contact. I told her I think Frigidaire should schedule it for me as the frig has significant problems. She stated she couldn't make outbound calls. She, also, stated a file was never "created" on me when I contacted them at the beginning of June. She ordered a part for me and it will be sent directly to my home. (The part, of course, is on backorder.)

She told me to put charcoal in my frig for the smell. I informed her both my house and my frig are very neat and that the smell was not coming from anything I had placed in my frig, but from the frig itself. I didn't get a reply from her, so much for customer service. I might add she raised her voice at me. Is that customer service? No, I don't think so.

When I got off the phone, I contacted the other authorized repair people. One didn't cover my area and the other repair service phone was disconnected.

So, I looked through my local yellow pages and contacted a repair man. When the part comes in, I'll guess I'll have to pay to get the new frig fixed as Frigidaire and their "authorized" repair people failed to adhere to their one year warranty.
