Sports Marketing Tale of two job descriptions

Back in October I searched Careerbuilder for jobs in Bergen County, NJ and found this company, only a few blocks away from where I have family. I scoped out the website and premises before a scheduled interview. They called to confirm the interview that morning. The girl at reception was nice but I thought it a little weird that the office didn't have a permanent sign and without the directions of the girl who set up the interview, you would never know it was there. Went into my first interview, went over some previous work information and interviewer told me that the company was in "sports marketing" and from the work on the website, I presumed that it was marketing done in newspapers or doing media kits. Was I wrong. The interviewer called me with in 20 mins after the interview and said that I was to come in for a second interview, prepare for all day shadowing.
I got there and suddenly a different girl at reception and she looked like she was stressed out. I kept seeing guys go in and out of rooms but not much work going. I kept noticing the BBB (Better Business Bureau) plaque on the wall. Thought that was very odd. At one point while I was waiting, some kid that reeked of weed came up to me and asked me to tie his tie for him. I was so shocked. Having been down on any luck for jobs, I wasn't about to let this kid go without a tied tie but I wondered about the screening process the day before. I was finally greeted by a guy who was teaming me up with one of the agents. I was explained we were going "out into the field." We go outside and the sales guy seemed pretty nice. I totally thought we were going to business to get ads or sell media kits to companies and we would come back and work on setting them up. We meet up with a crew of guys who look like they walked off the set of the movie "The Boiler Room." They tell us this story about how IS-G saved George Steinbrenner and the Yankees after the baseball strike by doing this big promotion and before you know it, we were off to Queens, NY and not the nicest part. They started telling us in the car that today we were going to make sure all the businesses in the area were in compliance by making sure they had all the worker's postings and fire extinguisher labels. The sales reps even had this badges that a different company name on it (compliance4less.com) Then the cold-selling and high pressure selling began. We were walking into chop shops and bodegas and other Mom and Pop businesses. The sales rep told these people they needed these posters or they could be fined and then demanded to speak to bosses or owners and sometimes demanding that the employees of the place get them on the phone. The sales pitch involved yelling and threats and sometimes to immigrant business owners that wouldn't know better and so instead of the prospect of a fine, they bought these posters and other stickers and were told it was good for 2 years.in hindsight those posters are now out of date in July and I'm sure this crew will be back to those same businesses again. As if that wasn't enough, if you didn't want to do the job, like I did after the first force-selling I saw, you had no escape. You were in Queens, NY. Miles from Lodi and had carpooled with these guys. It rained earlier that day so my suit was soaked all day, these sales guys had no soul and seemed to be a bunch of screw ups and a company that was quite deceptive in its job description. At one point, over lunch, you get the pitch about how to make money and its a pyramid ponzi scheme similar to Vector Marketing, home of the Cutco knives, but more advanced. Worst experience of my life and I hope the Attorney Generals of NY and NJ goes after this company for deceptive business practices.
