I received a voice mail on Thursday June 25 at 2:30pm EST. The message was very hard to hear but I was able to make out a man with a very thick middle eastern accent that said his name was Jacob Morris and that I needed to call him back because a law suit was being issued against me the following day and that I would be arrested for fraud for not paying off a payday loan. I called back and not only was the phone connection horrible but the man's accent made it almost impossible to understand or have a conversation. After almost two hours of calling back and forth in an attempt to get a better connection so that I could understand what was going on, Jacob Morris said he worked for a law firm but when pressed for the Law Firms name he said Cyber Crime Division... When I pressed him and told him that could not be the name of his law firm he became belligerent and started yelling at me and told me that I was going to jail because I was a thief and that if I paid him $1095.00 today he may be able to ge t the lawsuit stopped. When I asked for more information on the company that I supposedly had this loan with he finally said CashNet and said they operated over 1000 websites and good luck finding out any additional information. He then said I needed to hold but he did not put me on hold instead he started making sexual sounds. I was stunned by this and then he started talking again saying the same thing that if I paid him he might be able to stop the lawsuit. When I told him that I thought this was a scam or at the very least not a reputable collection agency... He screamed at me calling me a thief and said not to ever call the number back and that he hoped I enjoyed jail. I asked for the affidavit to be mailed or faxed to me and he said they would not do that. I asked for info on the loan and he had none of that info either. This man knew what bank I use so this is disturbing to say the least.
On Friday morning I received a similar message from a man who's name that I could not understand who left the same type of message stating that they had a law suit against me and I would be arrested tomorrow if they did not hear back from me.
