I was hired by Subway as a Manager Trainee and began working for them on April 23. I was placed at this store and then would be put into my own store as soon as Paul, the manager, felt that I was ready. Steve, the regional manager, said that Paul was the best training manager, very good at training and that I would be fine.
First thing that I was taught and an ongoing thing was to make the sandwiches. I didn't have a problem with that, only problem that I had is that I was not that fast, I believed that it would come in time like everything else. I spent about 15 minutes on the register, I needed alot more. 2nd day comes around and from 3 to 4 in the afternoon I was left alone. Ok, I handled that situation too!
I kept asking Paul different questions and they never seemed to get answered. I was to be a manager and needed to know about the paper work and inventory and scheduling and etc. No real time was left for this. It was always hurry up, hurry up. Have to do these sandwiches fast. On that following Sunday I was to be alone in the store. I was placed with the 2 laziest, mouthy kids that worked there. I ran around doing everything as they sat on the floor and played around in the back. A camera is on the whole time and the video could have been watched by the management if they wanted to see it. On the next following Tuesday I was fired.
Steve, took me outside, and said that he and Paul had some concerns. I knew what their concerns were, especially since I had talked to Paul about that Sunday that I was left alone. I was going to be history. Steve, stated that he felt that the physical part was going to be to much for me to handle. One question that I didn't get answered is " how would he know that?". From putting away the delivery truck order? All of that is put inside and you carry it to the freezer. Big deal! I don't know how to mop, or clean, what? I am 41 years old, I have a home I think that I can do that.
He stated that My Physical status kept me from doing things, is this because, I am a large woman? I told Steve, not to even go there, we have a ranch and I throw hay bales that weigh around 125 lbs a peice. Then he started to say something about Art and Jerry who are the owners, that I had met for only 10 minutes and that was cut off very fast.
So what Subway is saying is that fat people can eat there but, fat people can't work there! My big question is Why did I get hired if they don't like fat people, I didn't gain a 100 lbs from the day that I was offered the job to the day that I started. As far as the physical, well Steve isnt so small and neither is Paul.
The best thing about this store is not the quality of their sandwiches because, these sandwiches are not pretty they are thrown together, and it isn't the money because Subway doesn't pay that good, it is the customers that come in and give a smile to you even though you are slow!!
