It looks as if it's still registered in the State of California under the previous owner, Essex Property Trust, Inc. Over the last six years, UDR has purchased Orange County-based apartment properties from Essex to establish their presence in southern California. Essex Property Trust, Inc., located in Palo Alto, California and traded on the New York Stock Exchange (ESS), is a fully integrated real estate investment trust (REIT) that acquires, develops, redevelops, and manages multifamily residential properties in selected West Coast communities. Essex currently has ownership interests in 125 multifamily properties (26,797 units), and has 826 units in various stages of development.
The question is does UDR legally own this property in the state of California? Not according to the California Secretary of State it doesn't.

They are held to a very high standard by the Securities & Exchange Commission yet they are operating like a 7-11 down the street.
