Eugene Rodney Melton Jr. Aka "Rodney" operates and owns Smithville Horse n Buggy. Mr. Melton is a 2 count child sex offender (indecent liberties with minor children). Under many NCGS codes he is not allowed to operate and be unwittingly exposed to the public for the safety of minor children. Mr. Melton even sets up in public spaces utilized by children and is on several social networking sites just small examples of what sex offenders cannot under the law do. He even targeted a local girl scout camp, giving them rides at a secluded location and did not disclose his status as a sex offender to the troop leaders. On his website, you will not find many pictures of him as he is aware that this would be illegal. He claims that he does not run the carriage but many I know have the pictures to prove it. The city has "hired" Mr. Melton to take the kids for free hay rides in Southport on Halloween and set up his carriage beside the kid's exibit at this year's spring festival. The paper even got his picture with all the little kids. The city is aware of his status but must not care about the safety of its citizens! Mr. Melton even took young ladies from a theatre group on the 4th of July parade. They were advertising their production of "Little Women". Fitting for a man of his disposition! Beware! He puts kids in the front seat of his carriage (I have the pictures) while the unsuspectiong family enjoys their carriage ride! No 2 ways about it... He is operating this illegally, he is getting away with it, and if it is not stopped another child may be irrevocably damaged!
