Sales agent lied about cash back offer and requirement to upgrade internet, Nationwide

An AT&T sales agent came to our door and told us since we had internet services through AT&T we were going to have to change over to their new system. He said if we would try their AT&T U-verse tv for one month it would cost us nothing to try because AT&T was offering $100 cash back and we could cancel after one month if we weren't satisfied. This was a deceptive lie.

The order form states " (If a Cash Back or Coupon Sale) You will receive notification with instructions on how to redeem your rewards. Service must be active at time of redemption". We received instructions on how to redeem the rewards by mail one week AFTER the one month trial was up, making it impossible to get the reward. AT&T controls the timing of the check and made it impossible for us to get the cash back offer unless we continued service.

An AT&T customer service rep. Said they mailed the check March 24 but it couldn't be cashed since the account was no longer active. Another lie. No check was ever received. We paid $111 and now have slower, lousy internet service that freezes up sporadically.

We warned our neighbor who heard the same sales pitch from the AT&T sales agent. Our neighbor had told us and the agent he was under contract with Direct TV for two years. He only agreed to try AT&T U-verse tv for one month since it was free and he might change over when his contract was up. He would have had to pay for two services at once.

We believe this is a scam and should be stopped. If enough of us who have been scammed take action by contacting the state's attorney general's office, consumer fraud division and the federal trade commission and posting our experiences to consumer websites, we may be able to stop AT&T from committing this scam.
