DJ Edwards Homes
Overcharged, Damaged Home, Did Not Complete Job, Did not Return as Promised

My wife and I recently purchased a home in San Antonio. DJ Edwards Homes was hired by the seller's agent to complete repairs on the home before closing. From the first day DJ Edwards Homes reached the job, it was one headache after another. My wife, (an insurance adjuster) stopped going by the house to check on the work because it was making her so upset. It literally looked like a child was handed a tool box, nails and box of lumber and told to have fun.

DJ Edwards charged the seller of our home $2600 to repair rotted wood at the front entryway, rear window and several fascia boards. As well as repair any crack in the drywall interior of the home.in addition, DJ Edwards was to repair the loose dryer vent in the attic and repair the torn A/C duct in the attic. If you think the bid was a bit high for the amount of work being done, you'll be amazed to hear how the items were "Repaired".

To repair the rotted wood at the front entryway and rear window, DJ Edwards Homes nailed a 1x4 over the rotten section and moved on. The fascia was repaired with a scrap piece of lumber that was 2 inches shorter than the piece removed leaving a gap in the fascia. When I saw this, I called DJ Edwards up and asked him to meet me at the house. DJ showed up and said he bid to "repair" the damage; not "replace" it. After a brief exchange, DJ decided to play good cop and blame everything on the seller's agent. He said he was told to cover up the damage so the house would sell. He also said the seller's agent told him he was friends with the seller and cut her a deal on his commission so she wouldn't complain about the price of the repairs. DJ's exact words were, "Well, I like you so tell you what, you allow me to bid on the work you're going to do on the interior of the home and I'll repair the work you're not happy with on the outside. I agreed but after speaking to several people who saw the work DJ Edwards Homes did on the outside of the home, I was advised against allowing them anywhere near the inside of the home.

DJ Edwards Homes came back out and replaced the rotted paneling around the front entryway and rear window with once again, scrap lumber from another job. The panel at the front entryway had screw holes in it and exposed screws after they put it up. The fascia was replaced with another board that was once again too short.in the process of replacing the rotted paneling and fascia, DJ Edwards Homes damaged the soffit of the home and the trim around the front door. This was brought to their attention and they said they would repair it but never did.

To "repair" the dryer vent and A/C duct in the attic, DJ Edwards Homes literally used two pieces of electrical tape. One piece of electrical tape on the a/c duct to hold it together and one piece to hold the dryer vent in place next to the opening in the roof.

That day, DJ Edwards had his "foreman" call me and request a check for the completed repairs. I told him the repairs were not completed and I wouldn't hand over the check until they were. Once again, we met out at the house and I showed DJ Edwards' "foreman" the damages and quality of their work. He said everything looked fine to him and they would not be doing any additional work on the home. He then proceeded to tell me how DJ Edwards felt HE was taken advantage of. DJ said he was promised he would be allowed to bid on the interior so he went above and beyond to make sure the repairs were redone.

Is it just me or does anyone else get the feeling these guys are playing contractor because daddy was a contractor and they're trying to fill shoes?

I called the title company who issued the check to let them know the repairs were not completed and they needed to hold the check. The agent at the title company said, "They called yesterday and said the check was misplaced and asked to have a stop-payment placed and have a new check issued." So, DJ Edwards Homes was paid $2600 for one day's work using scrap lumber and the job is nowhere near complete. Since my last conversation with DJ Edwards Homes, they have not been back out to the home to complete the repairs or fix the damage they caused. I have since hired a real contractor to complete the repairs and couldn't be happier. I have filed a report with the BBB (which he of course is not a member) and have told everyone who would listen about how we were burned.

The sad thing is, out of the 100 or so people I have told this story to, only 2 knew who I was talking about and they both said they were not surprised. Well, that's one way to build a reputation in town. Look out McDonald's! You may have some new applicants soon.
