This landlord will nickle and dime the heck out of you, renters beware! Lilburn

For close to 4 years my now husband and I rented a duplex from this couple.

First off they are very slow to make repairs in a unit that is around 30 years old. Within one month of moving in, a portion of a major piece of plumbing burst and we were without plumbing for more than a week. Their solution?

Send us to the neighbor (their good friend) to bathe. Can you say awkward? Hi, I know we just met, but can I use your shower? What did we do to flush the toilet? We had to go out and buy bottled water just for that.

How did we wash the dishes?

We were not able to, and so they simply piled up, basically we were forced to live in an unclean situation due to them dragging their feet on this repair.

The summer following this incident, the A/C stopped working.

It was 2 days before a vendor was even contacted concerning this. This left us without air conditioning in the dead of summer with 2 dogs in the house while we were at work. Also, the hot water heater had to be replaced, so once again no use of our water.

There were countless times that either my husband or I had to leave work to meet with the vendors they had working on these repairs, casuing us to have time lost and money not earned. If we wanted to deal with that we would have become homeowners, not renters.

About a month before moving we noticed water leaking from the bottom of the toilet. I contact this landlord to notify her of this. It seemed pretty bad as the linoleum had begun to curl up from the floor.

It took 2 days for her to call me back. When I did finally speak with her, I mentioned to her that we would need to know when the plumbers would be coming by so we could put the dog up while we were at work.

She basically just blew it off and started saying they wouldn't need to get into the unit before we moved out.

Which brings up another sore subject.

In my state, the law requires that duringteh last 30 days of tenancy, if the landlord wants to show the unit to a potential new renter they must give 24 hours written notice.

She called me at 9:30 to say they were bringing someone in to view the unit at 4. I asked if there was another time we could set it up as our dog was out and I was working my full time job and had to get to my 2nd job right after. She told me they had been tryingto set this up for weeks now and this was the only opportunity they had to show our side of the duplex. I would think that if they had been going back $70 and soem change.

They nickle and dimed us out of most of our deposit for very excessive and simply rediculous things.

They also advertise thus unit as being in a quiet neighborhood and it is anything but, the noisyness of the area was one of the main reason we moved.

Do not rent from judy or sean thigpen them! They are glorifed slumlords who are dishonest.

They expect you to treat a unit that is at the bottom of the barrel as if you are living in a penthouse from the Four Seasons. They will inconvenience you in any way possible. Even going on trips out of the country and not leaving anyone for you to contact in case of an emergency.
