Closeout Genius (Navi Genius)
Bait and Switch Scam to get your CC info

I was shopping for a GPS unit on the internet and found the best price at Navigenius.com. This is part of Closeoutgenius.com. According to their website, the product was "available." I ordered it online with my credit card after calling to make sure this was not a refurbished unit or a "second." They assured me that they do not sell anything other than first quality.

The next day, I got an email from [email protected] informing me that they needed to receive a confirmation call for security purposes. I wanted to receive the unit asap so I called right away. The number was busy.By the time I got through, I had dialed the number no less than 75 times. I finally got through to the "correct department" where a guy with a thick northeastern mafia-like accent comes on and congratulates me on my fine purchase. He then proceeds to try to sell me additional unneeded accessories, specifically memory cards, for the unit. Without describing them, I told him I had memory cards and he said they were the slow type. I asked how he could possibly know that and he said, "I know everything!" After tolerating his pushiness for what I thought was an admirable amount of time, I finally told him I wasn't going to buy anything other than the GPS unit. He was pissed and very abrasively hung up on me.

Shortly later, I received another email from them stating that the product was on a 2-3 week backorder. Today, seven days later, I went back to their site and discovered that it still says "available." I logged in to "My Account" on their site to check on the status of my order.in my account, it says "No Order to Show." I sent them yet another email asking if the unit was now available and why the order did not show up in my account. I also called and got who I think was the same guy on the phone. He said I would have to call back on Monday for backorder information. The hours listed on their website do not match the hours he told me to call back within.

In the meantime, I've continued to research them. It was curious that each time I went to their website, the price changed. I suspected that they were able to track my PC when I hit their site. I was amazed when I found their privacy policy located at http://www.closeoutgenius.com/privacypolicy.Asp. It mentions how they track visitors and use cookies. They're playing a pricing game from the beginning. I truly do not believe they are trying to sell anything. They are just trying to get you to enter your credit card information since their prices are very competitive and never intend to ship anything. I think it's a total scam from the beginning.

As of today, I still have no answers but they have my credit card information and I have nothing to show for it. I will try to call back tomorrow and see if I can get more information. I'll try to post my results.
