After a year of ok, just ok, service we recently encountered their version of a Fair Access policy. After calling to find out why the system was slowed to almost a halt, they told us we had exceeded the daily fair access amount. I was told we had downloaded 425mg, and would need to just shut down our system for 24 hours. I did so, after 24 hours turned it on and within less than 30 minutes we slowed down to a halt again. I checked, and yes, we had exceeded the Fair Access limited again. Being naive, I shut down the system again, thinking maybe I had miscalculated the hours.

Today, after being sure I had waited 24 hours, I again powered up the system and checked and sure enough the system showed Fair Access limited exceeded.

I called them and demanded to know what was going on, and after keeping me on hold awhile, they came back and said that their system would not be updating our account for approximately 3 hours! And yes, they told me the only solution would be to shut down the system and try again in 3-4 hours.

For anyone considering hughesnet, I would advise you to look at all other options. Hughesnet is not telling customers about their little Fair Access policy method for cheating you out of service, and they are not even following their own 24 hour policy. So Beware!
