I purchaced 600 ft of 4130 chrome-moly steel from Shapiro supply over the phone. Me and my buisness associate asked him many times if it was in its natural condition. When I recieved material it was delivered It was already rusting. After we cut all of the pieces to the lengths we needed we started bending them we realized the metal rust hardened. It was so weather rust hardened that it almost broke our bender. After several attempts we realized that the metal had been rusted and wire brushed off and sold to us. We found a date code on the metal that said that it was manufactured 15 years ago. When I called to see what they would do to fix the problem they said they would give me a full refund until they realized that they shipped it half way across the country to me. From then on they claimed nothing was wrong with their metal and that I would have to just deal with it. My associate then called him and argued with him and got him to admit that the metal was rust covered and cleaned up before shipping. He then offered to refund only half of my money.
Do not do buisness with Shapiro supply. For being a metal distributor they sure act like they dont have a clue what rust does to metal.
