So I've seen this "company" called Vector all over the place. They post fliers all over school campuses in hopes that students who are striving to get cash. Do not fall for it. I was solicited through mail with this company shortly after I graduated high school and in the letter stated all these great sounding benefits of what earning potential could be. I also have friends who say they've been solicited as well and had extremely similar experiences with this place.
After you call them to set up an interview, they set you up with a time to meet the manager of that specific "office" and upon arrival, I was really freaked out by the space. It was small office with about three people dressed in nice business clothing. The office had this weird table that reminded me of the brown tables I sat at for lunch in the 5th grade, at which the receptionist sat.
The woman seemed kinda bored and a little rude, and not to mention looked about 16 years old. I told her who I was and she had me sit and wait. A man in a business suit named Clint Buckalew who appeared to be in his mid 20's approached me and said he was the manager. He led me to his office which had absolutely no pictures hanging up. The carpet was a mess, and the only thing that remotely looked personalized was his name tag sitting on the beat up desk. The place looked like they just took furniture from a thrift store donation spot and quick schemed a way to create an office.
He interviewed me for all of about 2 minutes and told me I was hired. He stated that I would need to show up to UNPAID training the following Monday, and that the initial training was three days, and that the hourly pay would be $12.75 per hour after that. When I showed up to training, there about 15 people that were in this crowded office. He went on about this speech on the money that we would be making and explained that the service we would be providing was to do door to door sales for Cutco knives. He showed us a three hour interval of movies about Cutco Knives and the factories. Then continued on for another five hours about what we would be doing consisting of sales techniques before letting us go.
Why i wasted my time going the following day, I wish I could say, but that day was done deal for me. First a friend I went to high school with told me that Clint was constantly hitting on her, and asking for sexual advances, and witnessed an attempt to feel her up. He also had the last few people that believed their B.S. Pair off into two's and practicing door to door sales techniques.
During the so called "training" the reason I knew it was a scam, they insisted that we pay them $395.00 to buy the Cutco Knives to do the selling, yet we were supposed to be making $12.75 an hour. When I explained to Clint that the reason I was trying to work was FOR money because I didn't have any money, he and his "co-manager" insisted and persistently kept encouraging me to borrow the money from friends and family to pay for the purchase of the product.
At the end of the day, I contacted Clint Buckalew and told him that I unfortunately couldn't work for him. He then went into an unprofessional rant yelling into the phone about how stupid and useless I was that I couldn't sell knives. Said a few curse words and hung up.
SO. For those of you who are even considering calling these people do not waste your time. The only time any employer is to ask for money of you, is if you are looking to become an insurance agent, and even then they never ask you to pay THEM, but you'll pay to take the exam and get your license. So do not fall for vector marketing they are a scam!!
