Kept layaway payments, disconnected their phone

I was visited by a salesman and his wife. We set up a lay-a-way plan to purchase a bed. After over a year of payments, I stopped receiving a bill or any proof of payment. I called the phone number I had been given and discovered the phone had been disconnected and that there was no additional info available.
