Room Store
Also Known As Roomstore Or Furniture.com Roomstore / Room Store didn't just steal my money. They STOLE my dignity. Made me think it was all in my head AND MY HEAD WAS Hurt

You know, I got ripped off by the Roomstore or Furniture.com or whatever they are calling themselves. I did a little research and found that most of their assets come from the liquidation of bankrupt Helig Meyers.

Odd that the owner also had his fingers in that company plus another chain called Kimbrells in the Carolinas. Room store tries to keep it a secret that Mr Kimbrell is the President of Roomstore. That should be a red flag.

I am recovering from serious brain illness. The first set of furniture I bought, I saw online and ordered. I am unable to walk very well but I decided I better go into the store and look at it just to be sure since this was a major purchase.

It was so much bigger then the incorrect web stats had described it as. I called and spoke to Gail a supervisor and was first told it was too late to fix the delivery without being charged but then after I gave her the disability speel, she agreed it was after all their mistake. This was red flag number ONE. They changed the incorrect web specs on the website (It was the Carlson section, mis-measured by 38" width) and refunded my money and canceled the delivery.

When I was in the store I saw the Carson Set, which seems as deep but not quite as wide. I am not good in crowds or standing in lines so I came home and ordered it February 29th. I double checked the web stats. And they matched what was in the store so I felt pretty confident.

What was delivered seemed shallow. I am 6'4" and I felt like I was sitting on a lounge chair. I called and was told because I did not call within 48 hours more or less too bad. I explained the difference in size and in all honesty, everyone I spoke to at the Roomstore made me feel like I was crazy, like I was creating problems where there were none. Like I mismeasured all there furniture and put it on their website. This is when the supervisor Pat said "You don't sound too disabled to me"

And because my brain is not completely functioning I doubted myself and felt like this was my fault. After being brought to tears by this supervisor named Pat on the phone, I actually felt like maybe I forgot how to measure. Maybe it was my fault. Maybe it was my fault the loveseat had an unexplained red ink pen mark on it. Maybe it was my fault the sofa was a full three inches less deep then it still to this day says on the screen. Maybe it was my fault, the furniture had no tags or labels showing the manufacturer, and appeared to be sat on before. After all, they all acted like I had some nerve calling anyway. And now dare I notice any inconsistencies in the sizing. AGAIN? That is what they acted like "Oh no it is that guy that demands the furniture be the right size we say it is"

Out of the goodness of their heart they agreed to send a tech out to clean the ink marks. But with the understanding, I should have noticed the hidden marks behind the loose pillow sooner three three days, I should have inspected it to make sure the last people who returned it, well that is speculation. I thought it was new Roomstore, no need to go over it SO I THOUGHT.

As the short 8 months passed I noticed my back hurting from sitting on the sofa. I Noticed the no sag springs had sagged beyond the wooden frame. Maybe this was my fault was my first thought. After all according to roomstore they had done their job by accepting my money.

I called anyway, no supervisors, no Terri, no nothing. The young man said he would send a tech but since it was Thanksgiving it would be two weeks. I agreed. The tech came out was the same tech from before. He said He would order new foam for my coach and my loveseat. I told him, it was not the foam it was the springs. He said the couch was made for a mach truck to sit on. (I felt fat when he said that) And thought maybe it is my fault. After all I am only the same size I was when I bought the furniture. But still he insisted I sign his paper saying I was satisfied even when I said "DO I have to sign that eventhough I am not happy?" He said YES. His name is Trent and I have since been educated by the Roomstore Store manager here in Myrtle Beach he doesn't work for them, only a subcontractor.

I signed it and two weeks later no foam, not that will do any good. I went to the emergency room last night for excessive back pain and explained what I thought was causing it. The doctor told me I wasn't THAT fat and sounds like I had a cheap couch. I explained to him the Carson Collection was not cheap, at least not under the brand name Roomstore is selling it under (ROOMSTOGO has same couch same manufacturer, same factory, same cloth, called the PERIMETER COLLECTION) $200 less difference is Hillcrest or Hilltop. Come on Mississppi manufacturers, your in on this one too! (therefore different manufacturer no price matching)

I called the service center again, and was told someone would call me back. The tech had suggested I call the store manager at the store and see if he would give me 10% off a new couch or something. I called the store and was first hung up on by RUTH, then told the store manager was on the phone and had another caller on hold. Then she said he would call me back.

He called back and basically reaffirmed what the tech had told me, ROOMSTORE NEVER REPLACES ANYTHING. I told him of the problem and one way or another the furniture was causing me to have severe pain. He actually laughed out loud... For a long time.By now understand, I am accustomed to not being taken to seriously by roomstore. I told him the usual thing about filing a report with the BBB and Attorney General. He asked was I threatening him. I said yes sir I am, I am a consumer and I am threatening to unleash every legal remedy I as a consumer have to use against a company who defrauds it's customers.

And I meant that. I see now after spending the evening reading the numerous complaints on both Room Store and roomstore (make sure you search for both as complaints come up under both) but I see all the complaints have two things in common, BAD FURNITURE AND BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. I think these are the demons that led to the demise of their predecessor Helig Meyers. (CAN YOU NOT LIVE AND LEARN???)

I also did a little research and find that most of this furniture comes from the state of Mississippi and it is common practice for the same manufacturer to sell the same couch with two separate labels to avoid price matches.

That is what makes me so mad about all this. Why did I not read these things first, If you search for both Roomstore and Room Store double the complaints come up.
I can honestly tell everyone here, sometimes it is just not about money or a saggy couch. It is about your own self respect and self dignity. Roomstore completely stripped me of any dignity. Roomstores staff and customer service agents made me feel like I was the only one who had ever raised any question.

Roomstore made me feel like I was not understanding the way the world works and it really hurt me to think, I was not able to do anything, as I could hardly read and write at the time. Well roomstore, I can now walk, talk, read and write and I plan to PROVE your store displays are not the same as what you deliver. I am going to PROVE your conspiring with furniture manufacturers to manipulate prices.

And furthermore, I am going to PROVE that you deliberately caused me physical and mental pain in the process of committing FRAUD! I explained to you on my first call I had head trauma, you were made fully aware and you went out of your way to use my disability to keep from refunding my money. Furthermore, until my money is returned so I can have a decent couch to sit on, the tab for medical costs and pain endured from sitting on the sofa which is fully warranted now will become your responsibility, NOT THE TAXPAYERS OF SC.

Your reps like laughing at sincere honorable people. Your store manager wants to use scare tactics to protect revenue. Not normal but not unheard of in retail circles. What is unheard of is pulling a bait and switch and enjoying the PROCESS of doing it!

I am recovering and plan to use all my energy to fight roomstore in civil court and persue a class action suit with the help of Disability ADVOCATES. It is one thing to be completely ripped off, it is far another to be made a complete fool of and made to feel like your not making the progress you so desperately worked for! Roomstore can give me my money back, but they will never give me the dignity they stole from me. And just for the record, they never updated the Carson specs with the correct ones. I Printed the screens for the Carlton before and after, and printed the Carson ones today. Still says wrong measurement after 8 months of my crazy self having the nerve to make them aware of it!

Take a tape to the Roomstore Measure the couch, check the website, see for yourself, DO NOT Take a sales persons word.

To anyone out there, you can find it in a better fabric, you can find it for a few dollars less or more, you keep searching, but whatever you do. DO NOT GIVE THE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY! They will bait and switch you. ANd read everyone else s comments. It is all the same thing. They dont honor the warranty. Contact Your state attorney general, file a formal complaint. And when government calls to bailout the suffering home furnishings business, for god sakes call your congressman or woman, remember some companies deserve bankruptcy. I do not fault the manufacturers as they reimburse retailers for returns unless the retailer makes a special deal to not accept returns in which case the furniture is sold as is. Roomstore techs Customer Service and Store Manager all told me TODAY ROOMSTORE NEver takes anything back..

Guess i am making that up too!
