I belong to several of these book clubs, all of which are supposed to be automatically billed to the same credit card.
Every couple of months, I get a charge for $4 late fees on one book club or another, and the excuse is that they tried to bill it to the credit card and it was turned down.
Since that card was never anywhere near its limit, they then claimed "the card must have expired". Yuh-huh. The expiration date on the card is August, and it expired for one book club in January, one in March, another in April? Get real!
Pure and simple, a way to increase their profits by tacking on a $4 late fee every now and then. This has happened consistently for a couple of years; it was not a one-time computer glitch or failure of a trainee to click the right box to bill the credit card.
