I have been a member of Doubleday Book Club for more than 10 years. My husband has ordered from their Large Print Book Club for about five years. For the past two years they have repeatedly mischarged and cheated us.
Doubleday Book Clubs has repeatedly mischarged us, failing to calculate advertised promotions, such as percent off and free books and three for the price of two, into their charges. They have also sent unordered books and charged twice for the same books. Once they even enrolled us in another book club in which we had no interest, sent us books and tried to charge us!
They have no phone number and do not respond to complaints sent through the mail. You are responsible for getting unwanted and unordered items back to them. The only way to contact them seems to be through e-mail. Even then, they do not respond to specific concerns. They reply that "your concerns have been reflected in you next invoice." Then they send another bill that may or may not take care of the matter.
You must check invoices carefully and never allow them to charge your credit card directly without seeing the itemized charges. As soon as we get our most recent concerns take care of, we will cancel our memberships. Their response is to send us invitations to join one of their other book clubs, including The Literary Guild (notice the same address).
