It seems I accidentally 'set them up', and that they have ended up with a $19.95 DONATION.
When I requested a background check on myself there was something I knew existed from 21 or 22 years ago and was specifically looking for. The information I paid for turned out to be on someone else entirely (OBVIOUS difference in name, DOB, etc).intelius can't say that what I was looking for was "too far in the past", because this other person's information was from at least 4 or 5 years prior to mine.
So in that sense I accidentally set them up to be revealed as bogus! Subsequently, I wouldn't consider my $19.95 as having been paid for anything worthwhile — hence its being designated as a DONATION.
In the meantime, I contacted their customer support and asked them "have you ever heard of consumer complaints.com?"
When I got to usacomplaints.com to drop a dime on Intelius, I was not surprised to see so many reports already on them. I was surprised to find out though that I will still have to watch out for them trying to take additional money out of my account. I'm glad everybody else reported it, so thanks to them I have a heads-up. I'll contact Intelius again and let them know they'd better not try to pull that stunt on me (and I'll save a copy of that correspondence, too!)
