This company makes you take several steps to complete an application & seems to need too much info about references

I recently replied to a job ad on craigslist.com for an accounting/receptionist position. I received an email immediately upon sending my resume and e-cover letter to the contact listed on the posting. My directions were to log-in using the name and pin the email gave me. I did so, hoping to fill out a lengthy application.

Up came a very short, questionaire asking if I wanted info about starting a new business or lowering my credit card debt. I declined on both. The Web site thanked me for my info (which was none) and said they would be in contact with me again soon.

I checked my email the next day, and found about 25 spam ads in my inbox and junk-mail box.included in this mess was another email from Career Network, Inc. With yet another link to their Web site for me to give more information about applying for this job. I began to wonder why the site demanded email addresses from my references before I could continue with my application. So I gave them an incorrect version of my own email address and pressed "continue", there ending my application process again.

My suspicions aroused, I googled the company name, and found this report site and someone who is extremely worried about her personal information (ie. Cell phone number, home address, work history, etc.). I, too, am extremely worried about my personal information now. It looks like this contact/company wants email addresses so they can continue to send spam emails and see if they can get more suckers to send money, credit card numbers, ssn's, etc. I, thankfully, did not give out my ssn (they did not request it on the Web site). However, I do believe that if I agreed to "lower my credit card debt", they would have asked for it.

Now, I must find out from the credit bureaus if someone is trying to use my personal information to abuse my credit and ruin my life. Thanks, craigslist. Won't be using you again.
