I recently applied for a job posted in craigslist. The company is called Starlite Careers. The job was posted as a local flooring company in my area (No Company Name) needing a file clerk.
When I applied I was asked the usual information such as name, address, etc. Along with personnal information that did not relate to the job. Like what is your cell phone carrier, if I needed help with any credit card debit they could provide help, just submit credit info.
I did not submit any credit information. After applying, I received an email that read like this...
Thank you for your interest in our file clerk position! In order to expedite the hiring process, please fill out our online application at the link below. Attach a resume, if available. Once completed, your information will be forwarded to management for review. We will contact you in a few days.
We are a strong supporter of education. Hence, if you are currently in school or interested in furthering your education, please indicate so on your application.

I was sent a username (my email address) and a password to use to log in to the site that was sent to me. I used them to log in, was asked for references, which I gave. My mistake, as I later learned that information can be passed on.
I then decided to investigate the company and I did not find a lot of information and none that was postive as to them being a valid company. I hope my mistake will help future job searchers be more cautious.
