I was called last night with an offer for a special deal for magazines. I would get 4 magazines for the price of one. The one magazine I was supposed to pay for is Rolling Stones Magazine for 3.95 a week for 4 years.
It sounds good until you do the math. 3.95 a week comes to some $800 total billing for the 4 yr subscription, which comes to $200 a year. $200 a year for rolling stones mag?!?! You can get a subscription for just $12 a year from any other magazine dealer.
Thank god that they called again this morning to confirm items and I told them I wanted to cancel. Canceling was a huge effort because they kept trying to add more items to the order.
My order went to 6 magazines a year and I only pay $2.16 a week for 4 years. Still, I said no. Then they wanted to sign me up for some third party travel service and coupon package where I would be automatically billed if I don't cancel.
The lady said I would be receiving a cancellation letter in the mail detailing everything. She better be right!
