I recently adopted a dog from the aspca of conn. The story that goes along with this dog is very long a very sad. I took the dog back to Fred Akers spca and hoped for the best for this little guy, however being that I am handicapped I was unable to provided the very special needs for this dog and felt that it would be better served by someone who could supply those special needs. This dog could not hear, with limited sight had an eating problem (because of bad teeth) he also needed to be helped up on anything or anywhere he wanted to go too, the couch, the bed, my chair, and taking him out was a very big job for me since he could not hear my calling when he was about to get into problems. I was told by Fred that this dog was fourteen years old but was in good condition except for his teeth which he said would be taken care of by his vet.
Needless to say after three days of trying to take care of this little dog I felt so very badly about his plight and decided that he would be better off if he were with someone who could take total care of him with regard to the many problems he had. Since I myself am handicapped I did not feel I could supply this very special care. I returned the dog to spca of conn. And without question they acceped the dog back.
I then requested what I had paid for the dog $150.00 and was sumarily read the riot act for returning the dog. I was told that the dog was given to another home and that I was responsible for this dogs condition and I failed the dog and could no loger get a dog from spca of conn., and that I was further not going to get my $150.00 back and then I was hung up on. I was never told that this dog was Deaf and had a sight problem, or that he was not housebroken, (which I found out by surprise) or neede so much care.
I would not recommend anyone to go to this place for a pet of any kind since what I saw was alot of dogs with some serious issues. I am going to take this matter to the local T.V. Station and see about doing an investigative report, I am also going to call my Attorney Generals office to inform them of this operation and how it works by not refunding anyones up front fee. I would feel better knowing that the animals are being better kept than being used to gather fees. Not nice!!!
