I overdrew my acct by. 66 on 09/02 and for that I incurred an insufficient fee of $22.00 on 09/03 and then further charges of $35.00 on 09/10 and again on 09/16 putting my acct further in the negative by ($92.66). It used to be that this bank would cover any insufficient amount up to $5.00. To charge someone $92.00 in fee's for $0.66 is outrageous! People sometimes make mistakes, we're human. Bank's should be a lot more forgiving for little error's such as this. This is why we're in the trouble that we're in is because of fradulent lending practices such as this.
So, I went into the bank where I opened my acct. To close it, because they were of absolutely no help to me online. Telling me that I signed the papers and agreed to these charges (which I certainly do not). After waiting a good 30 minutes or so (the bank was going to close soon) this Indian lady with broken english took me next and asked me if I had the $92.66 on me to close my acct. I told her I had no intention of paying the bank any money for their fees but I would gladly pay the money I overdrew my acct by, the. 66. She told me well, we paid this and this and that for you now you owe us for the transactions. I was like I had the money to pay all of those transaction except was short by. 66 on the last one. She next tried to tell me that the bank paid for my gas and now I owe them. I told her I paid for my gas, all but. 66 which I'm paying for now so that I can close down my bank acct. I told her go ahead and give me bad credit, I don't care, I want my bank acct closed now! She then told me not to speak to her in that tone and she would get the manager. Well as soon as I saw the manager and told her I'd like to close down my acct, her response was more reasonable, she asked me if I had the. 66 on me and that she would close it. See? Nice and simple. Why can't it all work like that?! Though, it shouldn't have been this big deal in the first place. I was wary of this bank from the moment I opened an acct with them. They kept each deposit I made on hold for an unreasonable amount of time, like 3-4 weeks to clear, probably hoping for a slip up from me so they could charge me an insufficient bank fee. I will never do business with Citizens bank again and I hope they are next to go under.
