I am the mother of three boys they are 9,5, and 4 I am married and have had to have my mom move in with me. I want to tell my story because my family is being cheated out of Christmas and their house because of LUV homes and their incompetence.
To start about six months I received a call for the police department telling me that my son had called to tell them that he could not get my mother off the floor and that she was at that time being life flighted to the hospital in the town 45 minutes away. When I made it to her house I found out my son had found her in her room on the floor when he got home from school (he stayed there until we picked him up after work) and could not wake her up so he called 911 and ran for help. We never found out what happen to her that day but she was able to come home a few days later. Mom suffers from asthma, CHF, diabetes, High blood pressure, and the list goes on here kidneys shut down when she gets sick and she is easy to get sick. The house she was living in was small just the right size for her and a visitor but not for a family of five for any length of time. She needs us full time to be around and close by. I work 35 minutes away and my husband works 25 minutes so something had to be done and fast. We decided to sell her house cash in our retirement and buy a trailer and a piece of land close to where I work. We started looking for the land and found a nice piece for a good price that would take our retirement. So we made a deal for that my mom's house sold in less than a month after it was put on the market. We had found a trailer we all agreed on and made a deal for it. This is where our trouble started.
We had 60,000.00 to put down for the land and home. We thought we had it made over half the place paid for should have had the thing taken care of without any hitches. We have bad credit and let them know this, but mom has good credit so we knew we had a back up plan, so I was not too worried about that. When we got the check for the first 5000.00 we went in to start the deal and talk to a manager, told him we wanted a handicap ramp for mom, AC, siding, driveway, for them to clear the land, and we wanted all this included in the price of setting up the trailer with electric and water and sewer. We were buying in the city, so we did not need a septic system just hook into the city water and sewer. We asked the manager how long after we sign the closing papers can we move in. He told us two weeks no more than that because he will have everything line up and ready to go. Okay here comes Hell. The manager gets canned they put a new manager in his place that seems to not know what is up and it hits the fan. The first thing that happens is after we are told we are approved for the loan. This manager tells us we are not approved for the loan with the improvements we want it will cost us another 11,000.00 and maybe more if things did not pan out the way they estimated. That was with out the inprovements we wanted. Now remember I gave them a down payment of 60,000.00 and had been approved with the improvements now I am being told I need more money. I told them I want my money back. Within three days, they got it fixed with what I wanted. Now to start a time line this was October 30. They received the money from me on October 15. My husband and I sign the closing papers on November 15. The check cleared. But we still have not been able to move into the house it has been one thing after the other on the day we closed the manager told us he had ever thing lined out the trailer would be delivered on Monday, the guy that would be trimming the house out would be there on Tuesday, and so on and so forth and we would be able to move in the following week.
Well we are still not moved in and what is it December 12 we have no Christmas tree up any lights up I cannot buy presents, because I am scared that something will come up and we will need that money for the house. Plus I need money for the deposit for the weather head on our electric that cost 405.00 that we had to pay before they would put our power pole in. Then today of all things it has been raining for three days and the roads are slick I came home early so I could work on my homework for school. I took a curve not fast but it had to be fast enough I hit it just right and my car took a skid hit a fence then ended up on a tree.
The yard was cleared out of our pocket we had to pay to clear a spot for the house to be placed on the 19 of December, then we finilly had the rest cleared out of our pocket in April after we paid LUV home / Clayton To do the work for us. The handicap ramp they built for us has already had to be rebuilt less then eight months later because the person they contracted to build the first one used wood that was not treated and it started rotting. Plus it was not to ADA standards for a handicap person with one inch per foot slope of elivation. The new one is better built and at least the EMS can get on it with their gurney when they have to come and pick up my mother.
When my house was put together the carpet was not streacthed nor was the pad flattened out I have buldges all through the house I was told they would be fixed by three different managers To include one of the big boss from Clayton HOmes It stills has not happened. I have walls that the siding or triming is falling off because they had only been put up with one tack. The walls that are painted only have one coat on them found that out when I had to wash the dinning room walls wiped over them lightly and went to sheet rock. I could go on but I am sure I am running out of Megs at this point. I paid Good money for this house it looked wonderfull at the show room and turned into a lemon when it hit my land and I found out that LUV would not honer their commitment to their customers after they have the money in their hands.
