I worked 'faithfully', honestly and diligently for Wells Fargo thru a 'Temp' agency (Adecco) for over 2 years. I did a little bit of everything in the 'Loan Dept. For Mortgages, etc. The building I worked in was adjacent to the Wells Fargo Bank and up until the day I was fired had never used it to cash a check. My paychecks are from the agency but they use Wells Fargo as their bank. I was in a hurry on a Friday and decided to cash my paycheck at this Wells Fargo during my lunch break. My check was only for around $300. I went up to the teller, signed the check, handed her the proper IDs and she informed me they would have to charge me a $5 fee since I didn't have an account with them. I asked 'why' since the check itself was from Wells Fargo and even tho it was thru an agency I indeed was working for Wells Fargo, wouldn't that count? She couldn't give me an answer so I asked if she knew someone there that could. She came back and said it was just because I didn't have an account there. I told her that didn't make any sense and felt it was wrong to charge me the fee. She asked, "Do you want the check cashed or not?" I said yes but I felt the fee was wrong." I returned to work to find out this teller (who knew nothing about me and had never seen or talked to me before this incident) called over to where I was working and said I came in there and cussed her out, and she totally misrepresented and twisted the 'truth' of what happened in a very damaging way. My supervisor said they would have to let me go.
I was so shocked! And so were all my co-workers who knew my character and had grown to respect and like me a lot! I was three days from being eligible to work directly thru Wells Fargo. Nothing was more devastating! Nobody even heard the 'true' story. They just took her word for it and I was without a job. I was soooo wrongfully terminated and still feel I had every right to ask why I was charged a fee. Those are the type of questions any banker should be more than equipped and happy to answer. (I find out weeks later from someone at Wells Fargo that I SHOULDN'T have been charged the fee!) I realize it was only a $5! Believe me I wasn't that upset about it! I never cuss and I surely wasn't going to 'start' over a $5 fee. What could I have done? This girl obviously was insecure for not knowing how to answer a simple question and just took it out on me big time with a totally unjustified LIE!
