On my August Verizon phone bill there were two charges for unauthorized services. One charge was to Vox Trail presumably for Voice Mail services. I had never heard of Vox Trail prior to seeing this on my bill and I certainly have no need for Voice Mail services. I have an answering machine in my home. The amount of this charge was $14.95.
The second charge was to US Credit Find presumably for some kind of credit repair fee. I have no need for this service because my credit report is excellent, no problems at all. This charge was in the amount of $9.99.
Since both of these charges showed up on the same phone bill I am going to assume that the fraud originated from the same place but I cannot be absolutely sure.
I called the phone numbers listed for both services. Vox Trail uses ILD billing service to advance their charges. Calling the phone number did not result in any positive results. I was advised to call Vox Trail. I did and I told Vox Trail that my telephone conversation was being recorded. The person to whom I spoke did not object at all to removing the charges, or so it seems. I will find out next month. But I think that when I told him that I was recording the conversation he did not want to give me much trouble.
If anyone knows how these companies were able to bill me for services I had never heard about I would like to know how it is done.
The number listed for US Credit Find was an answering machine to which you could answer questions and get yourself removed. I hope.
I then called Verizon and told them that I would not pay my bill until they removed the charges. The spokesman gave me a new charge and I paid the bill without including the above charges.
What is really interesting is that both ILD billing and Verizon both knew that these charges were fraudulent but chose to do nothing about them. The Verizon spokesman told me that Verizon is mandated by the FCC to include charges for anything any other company submits to them and they can do nothing about it. ILD is simply a billing service and apparently does not make judgements about who or what kind of bill is submitted to them.
I really admonished both of these spokespersons for being participants in fraudulent goings on but they did not have anything to say.
