This report is just one of many. FRC doesn't even know how to spell my name. I talked to them and informed them that I didn't know who they were and I was not paying for any magazines I did not request. They said they had a recording of me and I had to pay them. This was obviously a scam.
Channel 2 (CBS) reported this very thing a few months ago regarding people being ripped off from magazine companies. The companies start by calling you in the evening and, in my case, thought it was a good deal since I hadn't had any subscriptions in a long time. Then they call you the 2nd night and tell you that you just talked to them last night. They said that they didn't get all of the information reported. I gave them the information not thinking anything of it. The 3rd night, the same thing happened - this time I was a little suspicious. After receiving bills from many magazine companies, I assumed that this was fraud since I only signed up with one company. They are more than willing to share the recording with you but it isn't exactly what I said.in fact, I knew it was my voice but didn't know how they got the information. Was it spread throughout the magazine community?
They continually harass you by phone and mail and in fact have no problem debiting my bank account for payments that I do not owe. The conversation starts with a telemarketer and ends up with a supervisor. So a short call is turned into a very long call. Some of the companies let me take a "short payoff" but continue to harass me by saying you have another account with them.
Something should be done about these magazine companies - I hope some attorney would take on a class action suit.
