It has been hard for the last 3 years working with Drive Time, I have bought 2 cars from them in the last 7 years. I was hurt at work so had a hard time keeping up with the payments, so I went in to get a pay date change to avoid late charges and bad credit, they charged me $35.00 to do this. For the next follow 2 months during my surgerys they keeped calling saying I was late, I was so out of it on pain pills and didnt have a clue to what they were talking about. So I called the office in Buena Park were I first bought my car, they were closed down, then I called the office in Garden Grove, they were closed down, when I finially found one that hadnt been closed due to bad employees. The rep told me that there was a mistake in the paper work for my pay due date Modification agreement. But not to worry she would take care of it in the computers. And I was only allowed one date change. After another 2 and a half years, I called and asked how much to pay everything up to date. I was told $586.00. So I made the payment, Final payment I thought. Then I started recieving phone call after phone call for late charges from 2 and half years ago of $135.00 and that it had accured interest charges of $866.00, leaving me with an unpaid balace of $1001.00 and if I didnt pay it off in 10 days it would go to charge off. I called the service dept and sent them the pay date modifications and other documents proving I changed this 2 1/2 ago. They were suppost to come to a resolution with this and I was hoping for my title, but NOOOOOO, instead they had a different collection rep call me 2 times a day for the next 10 days, and I had to exsplain over and over and over, and they said they didnt want to bother with it cuz it was 2 1/2 years old, I said I dont care, Im not paying money I dont owe, I finally was allowed to speak with the reginal Manager and he talked to me as if I was a low life flake that deserved no respect or consideration. He said you have been late on several occations one because you were "Suppossidly Injured at work" and another time because your dog died from that Bad dog food a couple of years ago, I said yes I was late but with good cause, and he laughed at me and said yeah right "Your Dog Died". You would think he would be more compassionate because of my string of bad luck and hardship, but instead he treated me very disrespectfull. But the botton line is I paid all my payments and believed they were current as well as any late charges, I asked him to provide me with a break down on the late charges, and he refussed and said just pay the $1001. That is all you need to do. I was told by the collection dept that the charges were interest on the $135.00 late fee's for the last 2 1/2 years, and the reginal Manager said it was interest on the car itself, But still I have not recieved any documentation on these charges or any notices of late charges not once in the years I have been paying for the car. They still just said we wont send you any documents or break down on these charges, "Just read Your Contract". I made alot of my payments by phone as I have been in bed with work injury's and surgerys and when I would call to make a payment I would ask how much to catch me up. You would think if there were late charges they would have told me or added them in to the overdue balance but they keeped them Hidden till now. So I decided to do a suit against them but found there was a class act already in progress. I was checking my payment and canceled checks and noticed that the date they were posting the checks were 7-10 after I had mailed them, so now that looked like I sent them late, but the fact is they were not posting them on time or in a timely manner, when they recieved them, cause more late charges. They had problems and law suits in the passed from over charging interest, so they reworded the contracts but are still charging to much, Now they charge interest and lated charges on Interest and Interest on late charges, I think this is illegal and called compounded interest. And that is why everyone at the corprate office has a different reason for the charges and they wont send me any documentation or break down or explenation for the $1001.00 extra they are charging me. I bought a $5000. Car for $10,000. Plus interest of $7,000. And I totaled my payments and I paid over $19,000. For a piece of junk worth $5000. And now they want more and wont give me my title and want the car. I think they are taking advantage of people who are desparate and thinking they wont get caugh but, we deserve what we paid for. And to be treated like everyone eles not as if we are scum or low lifes because we dont have the best of credit. We work hard for our money trying to make a life for our familys and build our credit back up and this company is distroying our efforts by putting us in dept wrongfully.
