My husband went on line to get an estimate for shipping a pod from NJ to SC. Got an estimate of $760 for a 12' pod. Great rate, right? Called the company and had them drop one at our house to load up knowing there was an additional charge for storage. Talked to a rep at PODS confirming the rate he got on line.
One and a half months later we are ready to have the POD move to SC. Called to have it picked up, and now the rate is $2044 to move it to SC. That's $2.40 a mile for 12'. A full truckload from NJ to SC is $2.25 on the high side with fuel included.
Questioned PODS about this... And? The price of trucking has gone up. (3 times???) I work in trucking and know the fuel rises, but wouldn't it be nice for us at that rate? PODS wants to know what quote # we received, but the on-line estimate did not provide one. As a matter of fact, there is no more on line estimates... How about that? Think that was a problem for them?
My husband had the presence of mind to copy and paste the estimate he received on line. PODS is insinuating we changed the rate that was initially given.
Bottom line... We are emptying the POD in our driveway. If I have to pay another company $2000 to move our stuff, it certainly won't go to PODS.
