I hired Bruce Bridgeman and Associates to settle my divorce case years ago. I had gone through many health problems with epilepsy, and in more recent times with biploar disorder (which I found I didn't have) but that's another story. I had two different lawyers when I was using his services. The last being Buddy Clark who told me I would get alimoney until I remarried. I was given alimoney for 4 years and it abruptly cut off in April on the 1st and then it was to return to the jurisdictional amount. I asked Bridgeman what that meant and he have me a card with Legal Aid written on it saying they'd help me for nothing. The point was is they helped write the settlement I'm now having to LIVE WITH. I was never given a written report stating the meaning of how all the funds were allocated.
At the time I just wanted to be divorced and wanted it behind me. It was their job, after being single for now 3 years, to look out for my best interests and ask for all the THINGS THAT I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS ENTITLED TO.
I saw another lawyer recently, and she told me that Buddy Clark was an idiot and he had no right to tell me such a thing if it wasn't true. After hearing about and looking at my paperwork, she said an expletive and said "I'm sorry but it is malpractice what they did to you!" She asked me if there was joinder and I still don't know what that is but it has to do with how the property is awarded I think.
I was getting $1000 per month for 4 years and that is how I lived-without it I would be HOMELESS IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE FACT THAT I LIVE NEXT DOOR TO MY PARENTS! I rent a duplex there and I haven't paid anything since April.
I have food stamps and that is all and I'm rich when I go into a grocery store but that's all I've got. My savings is long gone.
Whatever the alimoney didn't cover I would reach into my savings and "live off of it". I've been looking for jobs but nobody wants to hire me because they say I've got no experience. (I was a piano teacher for 21 years but the economy is so bad nobody wants lessons.)
I was denied social security today-they denied me of getting anything and I'm supposed to see another lawyer concerning getting social security on the 17th of June.
I've never seen such apathy on the part of an attorney. He doesn't care that my situation is what is it nor has he provided me with my files when asking for them 2 times. I heard they are in a vault of some kind.
I can't believe that after being married for 14 years 3 months I wasn't awarded on a paper I saw printed at the Orange courthouse that I've got $11,500 waiting in CASH from 50% of our 401k. I never got that, the pension wasn't weighed into the mess, and he is a ROCKET SCIENTIST who lives in CO somewhere. I can't serve him and went back to his office to have him help me and he wouldn't after all this.
I'm tired of all this and just want it behind me.
I had to file bankruptcy with another lawyer because of medical bills. My house in Orange was sold back in Sept. 07 and I wasn't told about it. It was sold for $350,000 and I was on the title to that place. I still have money coming from that as well.
If anyone has any ideas or would like to represent me in this case I would be most appreciative. I was on the phone to various advocacy groups and they all said I was "too high functioning" for any of their services.
I appreciate any comments and concerns regarding my situation.
