Nationwide Relocation
Overpaid for my move, waiting for a refund!

After reading numerous reports in this forum, I realize I am not the first nor will I be the last to be scammed by this company.

I contracted with Nationwide Relocation in Feb to move my small 2 bedroom apartment belongings into storage. The move was scheduled for 11 March. They attempted to move me 2 days early which I denied.

On moving day a RENTAL truck and 2 guys showed up. They were not prepared as they didn't have enough packing materials to pack my belongings nor any padding material for large funiture items. They used numerous personal boxes of mine.

I assisted in packing and loading of the truck or it would not have been completed in less than a day. The main reason I needed to help was due to the supposed "boss" calling for updates every 30 minutes.

Upon completion of packing and loading I was informed by the driver that they were to take an hour long lunch break and would meet me at the storage location. I suggested to them that they follow me to the storage facility since they were from Atlanta, GA and we were in Columbus, GA and most likely couldn't find the storage building. They called the "boss" and he told them not to do that.

I Initially paid a deposit of $492.93 and was told I had a balance due of $807.12. These figures were based on a moving weight estimate of 3000 pounds as given to me by Nationwide based on phone interviews of my belongings.

An hour after the truck left my apartment I received a call from a man named "Henry" stating that I now owed $1134.06 as my weight was greater than estimated. I told him that was impossible and requested a reweighing of the truck.

Henry told me that my belongings would remain on the truck and it would return to Atlanta if I didn't pay the full amount due. I paid the full amount, but not before the truck was reweighed, (very important).

I called Nationwide to complain, since this is who I was contracted with. The response to me was that it was between myself and the carrier and that they could/would not help.

Henry then called me and told me to have the truck unloaded and then reweighed, which I declined to do.instead I instructed the drivers to follow me to the same scales they had used.

Here is where I discovered several discrepancies. The empty truck weighing took place 2 days earlier in Atlanta, with no way to determine if this was actually the same truck! Furthermore, after reweighing the truck with my belongings onboard the truck LOST 2560 pounds.

I called Henry with this information only to have him scream at me over the phone, call me a liar and demand another weighing. I obliged him and had it reweighed yet again, with the same result.

According to my contract with Nationwide I overpayed initially and was due a refund for being underweight.

This all took place on 11 March. Today is 6 June and I am still waiting on my refund which has been promised to me. I have been told 5 times now that "Henry" has sent the refund check.

I have been in contact with Nationwide weekly since this all began. The customer service rep has done nothing but pay lip service to this. When I ask her about Nationwide refunding my money she states that is not their policy.

As of next week I will be contacting States Attorney in Georgia and Florida to file a legal complaint.
