The price of dogs down at the Lied Animal Shelter is $100 for large dogs, $50 for senior dogs, and $150 for puppies. They make you fill out a simple form with your name, address, and few questions to make sure that you will provide a good home for the dog. Dogs are adopted on a first come first serve basis.
But one day a year - everything changes. The first Sunday in June each year they take 63 dogs and AUCTION them off to the highest bidder at their Best In Show Program. One dog went for $1200 this year. You don't need to provide ANY information to join the a auction. You don't need to prove that you will be a good home for the dog - you only need to pay more than the other guy.
This is wrong and needs to be stopped.
