I found a car on Autotraders.com that I like. I contacted the seller via e-mail to find out more about the car. After a few e-mails, seller claimed he was being deported to IRAQ next month and didn't have much time to get the transaction done. I asked about Cash On Delivery of the vehicle and seller told me about Automobileprotectors.com which is a 3rd party that would 'hold' the funds until both parties were satisfied. I sent the first part of the money and got a confirmation to send the 2nd half but after I sent the 2nd half, never heard another word from the seller or automobileprotectors.com.
I decided to try and find the seller or his address or find some way to contact him. After a little searching, I found this website advising me that automobileprotectors.com was used to scam someone other than myself. I am a young adult that fell in love with a car and went and got a loan and shipped out money. I had my heart set on this vehicle and now I have nothing to show for it but a loan payment for the next 3 years. I am going to my local police department to file a fraud claim in the morning but I am doubtful I will receive any of my money back. I am filing this report to hopefully help someone else avoid being put in this situation. Make sure you research everything before you go online to sell or buy anything.
