I got a letter today in the mail stating that I had won a random drawing of a total of $150,000.00 and included a check of $4,900.00 that I was supposed to deposite within 24 hours. I called the contact at the bottom - Jason Long at the # 1-604-721-7342 and he said that the drawing had to do with buying stuff at Home Depo or Walmart. I tried to ask him more information and said I was looking for a website it kinda seemed like he hung up but I wasn't sure. He didnt have much to say about the "contest" but I was curious.
I went to my bank and they immediately told me this was a scam and that if I deposited the check the bank would initiate fraud charges against me for fraudulent checks. They told me another man got the checks and when he deposited them he tranfered the money that he didnt have and the check didnt clear leaving him with a fraudulent check from an unsuspecting bank and out $4,900.00 that he sent for the "award conformation".
The letter said once I deposited the money to call the contact back and then to transfer money to different locations for insurance and the certificate of clearance. I found another claim like this saying the guy would ask that the money be transfered immediately to these parties and if you tell him you have to wait for the checks to clear he will hang up on you.
I hope this helps anyone who gets this and falls for it. I will definitely attest to this fraud that was verified by my bank, Wells Fargo, who had a guy that it happened to and saved me from it. I dont think the companies mentioned have anything to do with the fraud and the names are probably fake as well.
