$14.95 "Free Credit Report" Experian charged me $14.95 for my "free" report

As you probably already know, the credit reporting agencies are required to give you 1 free report each year. Experian is not exception, however they are legally ripping off people including myself.

Here is how it works:

1. They advertise "free" credit report on their homepage
2. You are eventually asked to enter credit card information to verify
3. You see an "invoice" for $0 and access your report
4.in 7 days you will get charged $14.95 for their reporting service

Once you notice the charge you will call their customer support number which has three prompts of which all are automated and none are related to the credit reporting services. You may be able to find the right number buried on their website as I did.

You will then call the number and ask to cancel the service. The rep will argue with you to cancel it, but will eventually give in and send you a cancellation notice. The next thing you will do is ask to get a refund of your $14.95 because you were duped. The rep will then insult your intelligence and tell you that you should have read the super long terms and conditions before ordering your "free" report. They will in turn refuse to refund your money insisting that "it doesn't matter what the checkout told you. You should have read the terms and agreements."

You then get upset and call your bank to dispute the charge, but they say you "technically" agreed to the terms. So you are left being ripped off legally. You then realize that despite being mislead to think it was free because the US government requires them to do so,, you didn't read the fine print and got ripped off.

The only thing left to do is to publish the contact info for the CEO of Experian as follows for other who have been ripped of to contact.

Remember, legal doesn't mean ethical. This is actually a very smart way to offset the cost of giving a free report. Dupe consumers into at least $14.95 and call it a reporting service, which by the way doesn't appear to report anything.
