Recently, I believe I have fallen victim to a check scam online. A scam in which a buyer claims to have wanted to purchase my World of Warcraft account from me which I posted on craigslist, and after discussing this with the alleged buyer, he opted to send me a check. However, when the check arrived it was for an enormous amount of money. Shortly after me and my mother took the check to the bank, I found out about these online check scams. We hadn't the slightest idea this thing existed, the check looked completely legit. The buyer is now asking for the remaining money to be forwarded to a western union account, which is in Oregon. The name he/she has been using is Victoria Cage, and the email address is [email protected]
When I told Victoria Cage, or whoever was using the email address that hey would have to wait for the check to clear, they began to make up claims that their husband was dying, and they desperately needed $2,000 ASAP. They asked me that I front them the money out of my account which I refused. They even opted to send me bogus pictures, to try to support this claim.
A few days later, the check's amount was returned, it was listed as "ficticous and counterfeit" when I came forward to the individual with this informaton, they simply vanished.
Their appeared to be a large number of peope involved in this scam, from the sender of the check, the initial contact, and whom the money was going to be sent too, all of this information has been forwarded to law enforcement.
