Last yr daughter entered into a lease which was end dated for 2-28-08.. She was told due to the fact she was now pregnant near xmas 07 by a letter from this landlord that her lease would be not renewed after above date. She was called several times and asked when was leaving post a call on 1-2-08 saying that the townhouse stove lower element arc'd and was unsafe to use. One of these phone calls was for a potential new tennant visitation which was promptly cancelled when was told was leaving by end of jan. 08.. She took a new lease on 1-15-08 and moved out on 1-19-08. And we cleaned and waited for the established inspection on 1-31-08..
The landlord dared to arrive early and could not enter property as did not bring deadbolt key, demaned daughter come from work loose time and let her in. Stove was not fixed entire month of jan, plus we found 2 smk detectors open prior to inspection minus batterys and replaced them..
For the next 30 days nothing... We withheld feb's rent due to above and departure. No phone calls or letter for delinguent rent was recieverd NOR was the final report and refund of security deposit done. Upon calling the landlord on 3-01-08 they said lease went to the 2-29 and we were not sending monies til end of March. We Drove by and the townhouse was re occupied.
We sent them a certif letter and demanded the funds. They responded w less amt as calling the first two weeks of feb unpaid, there was NO reported damages however when we left their were issues of fire safety and other Boca issues needed to be addressed. Since daughter was like close to 30 weeks out and it was well, a emotional issue as being treated like this. We fell this report should shed some real life on the term "absentee landlord" w intention to de FRAUD those entering upon a lease with them...
