Shawn Bedard is a Burlington Vermont Landlord who is unethical and preys on the young university students at UVM. My daughter rented a studio apartment from Shawn last fall. It was filthy. It was supposed to be cleaned when she got it. He kept saying he would but it never happened and I do not believe he ever had any intention of cleaning it. I spend three days cleaning it with my daughter. We even had to paint the main room and caulk the tub because it was all mold. The windows were all broken and some would not even open which is a fire code violation. He was suppose to fix the window in the kitchen so that it would open but he never did. My daughters dad is a landlord and he told her Shawn had to fix the window and the front door which also was not code. My daughter was not the first person to rent this apartment so it was obvious that Shawn was a slum lord. The trash situation was awful. Burlington is a beautiful city but his trash dumpster did not have a cover and trash frequently blew into the yard and their were piles of roofing tiles, tar paper that were just left. It was pretty disgusting.
When a new apartment that was cleaner became available my daughter moved in. We cleaned the apartment and found a visiting professor from Ireland to rent for the last month. It was a good arrangement. At the end her lease Shawn illegally withheld her deposit and last months rent. He has told her numerous times the checks in the mail. I am not going to let some loathsome unethical Burlington slum lord take advantage of one more young college student. My daughter has a lawyer and she is going to sue. But if you are a Burlington Vermont resident or UVM student looking for a room or an apartment don't rent from Shawn Bedard because he will try to steal your money. Shame on you Shawn.
