Scam artists to the end. Told me they would lower my payments, then double billed

In June I made the mistake of ordering several magazines from Active Periodicals. I started receiving the magazines I had ordered. About two months later I started receiving others that I had not. I didn't think anything about it until I was contacted by the company in Nov. The representative that called me said that because I was such a good and valued customer, they were going to lower my payments from $58.49 to $51.22. I fell for the scam and was then transfered to another representative to take down all of my information (information that they already had). I left it at that.

At the end of Dec, my wife started questioning me about all the charges to our credit card. When I looked, I saw that Active Periodicals was charging the original $58.49 and the new $51.22. I called them and was told by their representative that I had agreed to the second billing and was not getting out of the payments. When I told her about the conversation I had previously, she replayed that phone call tape. It was edited and the first ten minutes of the call was missing completely. I asked what magazines I had ordered she gave me the list. I asked her to check to magazines on the original order. They were the same. I then asked her why I would pay twice for the same things. She told me it was for a subscription extension. I still had 4 years left on the first order.

I got off the phone and called the credit card company and had them refuse and refute payments to Active Periodical. They stated that they have received many complaints about Active Periodical. Just in the last week I have been contacted by Active threatening me with legal action if I don't pay up. We are looking into a possible Class-Action suit against them. We are contacting our state Atty General office and the same in Florida. We are contacting the BBB, Florida State Dept of Ag and Consumer Service, the FCC, and the FTC. We are also looking into contacting the U.S. Atty Generals office.
