About three years ago I contacted a Credit Counseling company because of the excessive number of credit card bills I was paying. I was not late on any payments or in default of any kind at that time, basically I just called them beause you always see the advertisements and I wanted to see what they had to offer.
Community Credit Counseling Corporation convinced me that they could help me. Although they did not lower my monthly payments at all, the did reduce my interest rates somewhat. But they also charge me $50 per month to direct debit my account monthly and pay my creditors.
At the time they convinced me to use their company they ensured me that it would not effect my credit negatively. This turned out to be a lie. Also at this time they kept a $525 "deposit" on my account.
Well, now it's years later. I have never missed a payment with them and inspite of their negative effect on my credit I managed to obtain a consolidation loan to pay off all of my credit cards. When I called Community Credit Counseling Corporation to let them know that I will be paying off my accounts they told me that they will not accept the checks to my credit card companies because they are not certified cashiers checks. Also, if I send these checks directly to the credit card agencies then Community Credit Counseling Corporation will keep my $525 deposit.
In addition, CCCC claims to be a non-profit organization, yet they charge me $50 per month and a $5 fee to debit my account. This is about $2000 they have made off of me during my time with them, yet they are claiming to save me money?
I feel that I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I have payoff checks to my creditors that I can't use without losing $525 to CCCC. I would go ahead and pay my creditors and just lose the $525 if I weren't so mad that this so called "Credit Counseling Company" that has lied and cheated me is just going to make a profit on it. I would appreciate any help I can get regarding this. Thank you
