This company sent me 3 (free) magazine subscriptions for a processing fee of 2.00 each. After one year, they sent renewal cards with a phone number to cancel if I didn't want to continue, otherwise the credit card (used for the processing fee) would be charged for each magazine for another full year (at full price.)
I called immediately and cancelled each magazine, well ahead of the deadline. This was through an automated system, which DOES not allow you to speak to a human.
My credit card is now being charged for the new subscriptions, and their automated system will only let me cancel partially. I don't trust this, because I already cancelled before, and it didn't work. I have yet to receive any refund.
