Bought magazines tied to cancel the transaction but check was still cashed

I bought magazines from a girl I thought really needed my help. When I sat and thought about the transaction I decided to send the notice of cancellation to the company. I made sure I sent it before the 3rd buisness day at midnight. I even sent it certified mail to make sure someone received it. I decided to cancel my check but found out it had already cleared the bank. I called the company at the phone number listed on my receipt and left a message asking why my check had been cashed even though I had sent a cancellation notice.

After not being able to talk to anyone I tracked my certified letter and found out it had never been picked up. I called the same number the next morning and recieved a recording saying the number only takes local calls.
