I just found out about this site and thus the delay in the report. I went to take my friends part Rottweiler part Mastiff dog to surrender to this "humane society." The owner of the kennels greeted me and stated that he would not accept the dog because she was "to big" and "would eat too much." He then proceeded to tell me what an irresponsible pet owner I was. I retorted that the responsible thing to do was to surrender the dog in lieu of simply taking her and dumping her on the highway. I went on to explain that it was actually my friends dog and she was too upset to actually surrender the dog herself. He then proceeded to tell me that I needed to select better friends.
I came home and called the "HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES" to let them know I would no longer be contributing to them because of how inhumane I had been treated by attempting to do the right thing. The receptionist was gracious enough to let me unload before explaining that ANY AGENCY can call themselves a "humane society;" however, only those that include "The United States" at the end of their name are TRUE humane societies.
Country Acres makes large amounts of money each year under the guise of being humane when they are anything but.
Please, when making a donation to a HUMANE organization, ensure that "THE UNITED STATES" is included in the name.
Thankfully the ASPCA took my friends dog and she was adopted by a gentleman who was gracious enough to call and let us know how she was doing. Lesson learned!
